June 30 2016 at a party this evening and talking about great music from the 60's and I told about this band my wife and I watched on Friday nights at the Serbian Hall on Barton Street in Hamilton. We knew them as The Brass Union and a friend at the party brought up this web site. I was in awe. Wait till I show my wife this site in the morning. We will be married 50 years on Oct 6 2016 and we often mention the music we loved that we knew as the Brass Union. What also came as a surprise is that we never new John Willett as we share the same family history. Hard to believe. They were just so amazing and we often wondered where they ended up and now we know. Thank you for this web site, it will be a favourite for sure.

(19) John Hannah's 'day job' was already with the Brass Union but he couldn't pass on a jam. Along with John, Terry Bramhall, Maurice Bourrassa, Dave Street, Bernie Labarge and Jerry Hortichuk were some of those who jammed at the Middle Earth Coffee House by Nelson High School back in '68-'69.

Every time I hear Beck's Bolero, it takes me back. Thanks, John

Loved the Brass Union, great band. I went to Nelson High and was good friends with John Hannah back in the day. I just found out he had passed away many years ago now. He was a great guy and I am very sad to learn of his passing.

'Stumbled' on this site, and what memories. Grew up in Burlington, saw the Brass Union several times, bought the record ' RESTUARANT ENCOUNTER" ( probably bought it a PETERS PLATTERS?) and think it's a classic garage rock song with incredible lyrics.

Brought back many memories of other Burlington groups such as RISING SONS, RAGGED EDGES, COACHMEN.. etc

Wow, what detail on this carefully crafted site .

Every time I visit this site, I re-live every moment you describe (at least the ones I didn't live the first time)

Went to Aldershot High School in the late 60's and thought the Brass Union was the best band in the world. Did know many of you. You were the biggest influence to me for choosing to go in a Show Band in the 70's out of Hamilton called Coulson or Coulson brothers. (Jack still plays in area) Travelled all of Canada for 9 years. Went on my own in Toronto Piano Bars for many years after that. Remember the publicity shot on the Cochran's front yard on North Shore Blvd. Ran into Paul Goodrow several years ago on my way to Florida. It's good to know you are all doing well.

I was so saddened to hear about the passing of John!! I just last week met his niece (lovely lady)and she brought me up to speed and a tear I did shed. I last saw him play in London On at a bar in the early 80's!! I believe he was with Crackers at the time. I know I am late with condolences but My heart goes out to his wife and family. I know he is greatly missed!! So sad I can't say "high" to an old friend!! I hope all is well with his family!!

After our "JUG Band" opened for the new "Pillar Square" in the YMCA in Hamilton, I spent a lot of time there with the young adult board that ran this facility. I have great memories of this band and that place and this web page has brought back so many more for me. Thanks for memory lane and best of luck to all.

Just "happened" to look at your website.
So many memories. I lived in Hamilton Ont. and the band played at my highschool, and we used to go when playing in other schools,
we used to think the band was the best ever.
June 28th Chicago is appearing in Padova (Italy) I associated the Brass Union with Chicago style, only the Brass Union was better. Too bad it did not last.
Thank you for the good time and the good music. Ciao Daniela

Loved The Brass Union and went to watch practices at the downtown YMCA....a great band to dance to. Had a major "crush" on John Willett, may he rest in peace. A group of nice guys is what I remember with loads of talent!
